US forces impose a curfew in western of Baghdad (Extra)

Baghdad - US forces imposed Friday a curfew in Baghdad's Ameriya neighbourhood, following armed clashes that had erupted in the preceding two days in the area, witnesses said.

On Wednesday, armed clashes broke out Ameriya between gunmen believed to be members of Ashreen (1920) Revolution Brigades and the Islamic army on one hand and elements of al-Qaeda on the other.

Aameriya is a Sunni neighbourhood where many armed groups linked to the al-Qaeda terrorist network in Iraq are located.

Media reports had recently indicated a separation between al-Qaeda and other armed factions like al-Ashreen Revolution Brigades and The Islamic Army after accusing Qaeda of being behind the killing of militants belonging to the two factions.
