Germany looking into Iraq kidnap claims

Berlin - Germany is looking into reports that three Germans were kidnapped in Baghdad on Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the foreign ministry said in Berlin.

The German embassy in the Iraqi capital and 'all relevant' offices are checking out the reports, the spokeswoman said.

The Arab news channel al-Arabiya reported that the three Germans were abducted from the Ministry of Finance building in Baghdad.

Other reports spoke of seven abductions - three Westerners working for a German IT company and their four British bodyguards.

A German mother and her 20-year-old son have been held hostage by kidnappers in Iraq for more than three months.
