Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday expressed confidence in his successor Alhaji Umaru Yar'adua, saying that he will take Nigeria to the promised land.
"He is a man in whom I have great confidence," he said in a farewell broadcast, adding that he has worked with him and observed him at very close quarters."I have confidence that he will discharge his mandate to the satisfaction of all Nigerians," Obasanjo said.
The outgoing president said that he was particularly gratified to note that Nigeria had become more united than at any other time. "We have become simply Nigerians interested in the development and progress of our country," he said, urging the citizens to respect the spirit of oneness and unity in everything they did.
Umaru Yar'adua, Nigeria's president-elect, is to swear into office on Tuesday.
