Israeli strike on Hamas militants kills two in eastern Gaza

Gaza City - Two Islamic Hamas militants were killed before dawn Wednesday by an air-to-ground missile fired by an Israeli warplane east of the town of Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip, medics said.

Palestinian security sources reported that an Israeli aircraft fired one missile at the two militants as they were trying to launch homemade rockets from the eastern Gaza Strip into Israel.

Medics said Palestinian ambulances rushed to the area, evacuated the two militants and brought them to the hospital. Their identity was not immediately known.

Earlier Tuesday evening, Israeli troops stormed the West Bank city of Ramallah and shot dead a Palestinian security officer. A second Palestinian militant was killed near the northern West Bank town of Jenin.

Early Tuesday morning, two Islamic Hamas militants were shot dead in a gun battle with a special Israeli army force east of Rafah in southern Gaza Strip. A column of tanks and armoured vehicles stormed the area.

Also on Tuesday, three Islamic Jihad militants were killed and three others wounded after an explosive device went off as they were preparing it in a house in central Gaza Strip.

Israel said the aim of the military operations against Gaza is to force militants not to fire homemade rockets from the Gaza Strip at Israel.

Militant group leaders have vowed not to accept any truce with Israel and to continue the attacks as long as Israel continues its military operations against them in Gaza and the West Bank.
